SPROTO FISHING documentation

Everything about how the game works — the casting and fighting mechanics, the catch economy, gear and bait progression, and how catches turn into $BITCOIN on Ethereum mainnet.

Getting started

You can be fishing in under a minute. No wallet required.

  1. Open the game and press Play.
  2. Pick an angler name. You start as the Sproto Guardian — change bodies any time from the Profile.
  3. Hold Left Click or Space to charge a cast, and release toward the water.
  4. Watch the bobber. When it plunges and a ! appears, click immediately to set the hook.
  5. Reel it in without snapping the line, then sell it at the Shop and upgrade your gear.
New anglers start in Casual mode. You can fish freely, fill your Journal and level up without spending bait or connecting a wallet. Switch to Pro when you want catches to be worth real $BITCOIN.

The cast

Holding the cast button sweeps a power meter. Release sets the distance — and distance decides which water you are fishing.

  • Shallow — out to ~14 m. Common fish, fast bites.
  • Mid — ~14–30 m.
  • Deep — beyond ~30 m. The rarest fish live here, and bites take longer to come.

Your rod's cast multiplier raises the maximum reachable distance, so better rods are what open up deep water rather than simply catching more.

Jigging

A quick tap while waiting jigs the lure. Each jig shortens the remaining wait, can provoke an immediate teaser nibble, and nudges the rarity roll in your favour — with the bonus capped after three jigs, so mashing it has no extra effect.

The fight

Landing a fish is a tug of war between the catch bar and the tension bar.

  • Reeling fills the catch bar but builds tension. Resting lets tension fall while the fish claws progress back.
  • Tension hitting 100% snaps the line and the fish is gone.

The green zone

Tension between roughly 45% and 78% is the sweet spot: reeling inside that band pulls the fish in about 1.55× faster. Reel above the band and tension climbs about 1.4× quicker. Good anglers ride the top of the green zone rather than yanking.

Perfect hooks

Setting the hook in the first 30% of the ! window is a perfect hook: you start with far lower tension, bonus progress, and about a second of immunity before the first surge.

Surges, runs and saves

  • Surges are telegraphed just under a second ahead. Stop reeling — reeling through a surge multiplies tension threefold. Tapping during the telegraph dodges, softening it.
  • Runs send the fish bolting sideways. Lean the rod the same way or tension spikes.
  • Snap save — if you release within a split second of crossing 100% tension, you save the line once per fight.
  • Fish tire. Once stamina runs out they weaken noticeably and surge less often.

Land the fish by heaving it out once the catch bar is full.

Casual vs Pro

Casual Angler

The default. Cast as much as you like — no bait is consumed. Catches fill your Journal, stats and levels, but are catch-and-release: they earn no $BITCOIN and are not added to the sellable catch bag.

Pro Angler

The full economy. Every cast spends one bait, catches are validated by the server and are worth real $BITCOIN you can sell and withdraw.

Switch modes any time from the HUD. Your mode is saved with your profile.

Fish & rarity

There are 80 species across seven rarity tiers. Rarity drives both value and how hard the fish fights.

TierNotes
CommonEveryday catches, bite quickly in shallow water.
UncommonSlightly longer waits, a little more fight.
RareRewards deeper casts and better bait.
EpicSerious fights — expect multiple surges.
LegendaryNarrow hook windows and heavy runs.
MythicDeep water, top-tier bait, real skill.
UltramythicThe rarest things in the game.

What is biting depends on where you cast, how far out you land, the time of day and weather, and the bait on your hook.

Waters

Four fishing locations, each unlocked with a level requirement and a one-off cost.

LocationLevelUnlock cost
Calm Lake1Free
River Bend320,000
Coastal Pier690,000
Deep Ocean10325,000

Costs are in $BITCOIN. Open the Map with M to travel or unlock.

Time & weather

A full day/night cycle runs about 32 minutes of real time, starting in the morning. Time of day shifts which species are active, and the sky, water and ambience change with it.

Weather is live — clear, overcast, rain and mist each change the mood and the bite. The current condition is shown next to the clock.

Gear

Gear is bought at the Shop (B) and comes in four slots: rod, reel, line and hook.

  • Rod — raises maximum cast distance, the key to reaching deep water.
  • Reel — reels faster, filling the catch bar quicker.
  • Line — tougher line means tension climbs more slowly.
  • Hook — improves your hook-set odds and grip on the fish.

Rods

Quantum Flex Rod3.10123,529
Leviathan Rod3.50141,176
Celestial Rod3.90158,824

Reels, lines and hooks follow the same tiered structure — 57 pieces of gear in total.

Bait

In Pro mode every cast consumes one bait. Better bait shifts the rarity roll upward and raises the ceiling on what a single catch can pay out.

BaitPrice each
Basic Grubs1
Fine Shrimp5
Prime Spinners10
Exotic Lures25
Mythic Chum50
Celestial Essence100

Bait prices are quoted in $BITCOIN and follow the live market rate, so the number of tokens shown in the Shop moves with the token price.

Anglers

Your angler is the body you fish as. The default is the Sproto Guardian, the game's own mascot. Several more are free from the start, and a set of premium anglers can be unlocked in Shop → Anglers for $BITCOIN.

Animated anglers have their own idle and casting animations. Change body any time from the Profile — it is purely cosmetic and never affects fishing.

Levels & XP

Every catch grants XP based on the species and how well you landed it. Level 2 needs 350 XP, with each level costing progressively more.

Levels gate the waters you can unlock, so levelling is the main path through the game even in Casual mode.

Journal

Open with J. Every species you land is recorded with its rarity, your personal best weight and length, and where you caught it. Species you have not caught stay as silhouettes — the Journal doubles as the game's completion checklist.

Daily quests

Three quests refresh each day:

  • Cast 5 times
  • Catch 3 fish
  • Earn 75 XP

They are deliberately small — a few minutes of fishing clears the set. Keeping a streak going across consecutive days pays out the best rewards, including a free premium angler at seven days.

Achievements

24 achievements track long-run milestones: lifetime earnings, catch counts, rare species, personal bests and gear progression. They unlock automatically and are visible from your Profile.

Casual note. Achievement rewards pay $BITCOIN, so they are only granted while fishing in Pro mode.

$BITCOIN

The in-game currency is $BITCOIN — the token HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu on Ethereum mainnet.

NameHarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu
SymbolBITCOIN
Decimals8
NetworkEthereum mainnet (chain ID 1)
Contract0x72e4f9F808C49A2a61dE9C5896298920Dc4EEEa9

The contract address is shown in the footer of the title screen, with links out to DexScreener and Etherscan. Always verify the address against this page before interacting with any token.

Wallet & sign-in

A wallet is optional for Casual play and required for anything that touches value. Connect from the panel in the top right of the title screen.

Sign-in works by signing a plain message with your wallet — it proves you control the address and costs no gas. It is never a transaction, and it never moves funds. Signing in links your progress to your address so catches and balance follow you across devices.

Never share your seed phrase or private key. The game will only ever ask you to sign a message or approve a transaction in your own wallet. Nothing else is legitimate.

Earning

In Pro mode a landed fish goes into your catch bag and can be sold at the Shop. What a fish is worth depends on its species and rarity, its size, and the multipliers from your bait and gear.

Sales credit your in-game balance. That balance is what levels, gear, bait and water unlocks are bought with, and what you can later withdraw.

Catches in Pro mode are validated server-side before they pay out, which keeps the leaderboard and reward pool honest.

Withdrawals

Earned balance can be withdrawn to your connected wallet as real $BITCOIN.

Minimum withdrawal10 $BITCOIN
Daily cap500 $BITCOIN
WithdrawableTotal earned minus total already withdrawn
Claim validity1 hour from issue

A withdrawal issues a signed, time-limited claim that you redeem on-chain, so the payout is authorised by the server but settled by you. The reward pool also enforces a utilisation ceiling: if too much is already pending, new claims are declined until it clears.

You pay Ethereum network gas to redeem a claim. Because gas on mainnet varies, batching a larger withdrawal is usually more economical than many small ones.

Status. On-chain redemption depends on the reward escrow contract being deployed and configured for the current network. Until then, withdrawals return a "not configured" error and your earned balance stays safely recorded server-side.

Fish NFTs

Notable catches can be minted as ERC-721 fish NFTs with on-chain metadata for the species, rarity, size and where it was caught. Minting is authorised by a signed claim from the server, the same pattern used for withdrawals, so only fish you actually landed can be minted.

Minting is optional and cosmetic — an NFT never affects your fishing or your balance.

Global chat

The Fishermans Hole panel on the title screen is a global chat shared by everyone playing. Reading it is open to all; posting requires a connected, signed-in wallet, which keeps it accountable and spam-resistant. Messages are capped at 280 characters and the most recent 60 are shown.

Chat carries player flair from the leaderboard, so you can see who is actually catching things.

Saves & data

Progress saves automatically to your browser. Signing in with a wallet additionally syncs your profile server-side so it follows your address to other devices.

  • Anonymous progress lives in local browser storage and is tied to that browser.
  • Reset Save on the title screen wipes local progress. It cannot be undone.
  • Clearing site data in your browser also clears an anonymous save.
Coming from Tidal Fishing? Your old local save is imported automatically the first time you open SPROTO FISHING in the same browser.

Install as an app

SPROTO FISHING is a progressive web app. On desktop Chrome or Edge use the install icon in the address bar; on iOS use Share → Add to Home Screen; on Android accept the install prompt or use Add to Home Screen.

Installed, it launches fullscreen with its own icon and keeps its save like any other app.

FAQ

Do I need a wallet to play?

No. Casual mode is fully playable with no wallet and no tokens.

Does casting cost anything in Casual mode?

No. Bait is only consumed in Pro mode.

Why did my line snap?

Tension reached 100%. The usual cause is reeling through a surge — when the fish telegraphs, stop reeling and let tension fall.

Why can't I reach the deep water?

Maximum cast distance is set by your rod. Upgrade the rod rather than trying to charge harder.

Why is my catch worth so little?

Value scales with rarity, size, bait and gear. Cheap bait in shallow water pays accordingly.

Can I lose my earned balance?

Earned balance is recorded server-side against your wallet once you have signed in. Anonymous progress is only as durable as your browser storage.

Does the angler I pick change my odds?

No. Anglers are cosmetic.
